Title: Increases Legal Age to Buy Firearms to 21

Vote to pass a bill that increases the legal age to buy, own, or transfer any kind of firearm to 21 years old.

Highlights:

 

  • Increases the legal age requirement to possess or purchase a firearm from 18 to 21 years of age (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies penalties for individuals found to have intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly provide, sell, transfer, or otherwise allow a minor under the age of 21 to possess a firearm as a class 2 misdemeanor for first offense, and a class 5 felony for all subsequent offenses (Sec. 4).

  • Exempts the following individuals from the aforementioned age requirements for firearm possession, including, but not limited to (Sec. 4):

    • Active members of the military;

    • Active law enforcement officers;

    • Individuals who are attending firearm education training courses; 

    • Individuals hunting or trapping with a valid license accompanied by a mentor;

    • Individuals given permission by their parent or legal guardian.

  • Specifies that this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 13).
