Title: Authorizes Schools in which 60% of the Building is not Being Used for Classroom Instruction to be Converted to Charter Schools
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes schools in which 60% of the building is not being used for classroom instruction to be converted to a private charter school.
Requires the governing body of a school corporation to conduct a review of the usage of school buildings to determine if the school needs to close any buildings annually (Sec. 3).
Authorizes the closing of a school building if (Sec. 3):
The building had been used at one point for classroom instruction;
The building has been underutilized for classroom instruction for the the current school year and the two school years immediately preceding the current school year;
The school is not subjected to a transitional plan as of the end of the school year before the school building is required to be closed; and
The school has an alternative building with sufficient capacity that is within a 20 minute travel time for a building they want to shut down that was used for instruction in the past year.
