Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to adopt a conference report and pass a bill that establishes new rules for retaking school courses and reducing redundant data.

Highlights:

• Authorizes high school students to retake classes that were virtual during the pandemic (Sec. 31).

• Specifies students must fit the following criteria to retake classes (Sec. 31):

• Have been in grades 9 through 12 during the years of 2019-2022 when the virtual course was completed; and

• The virtual course was completed due to the ongoing pandemic; and

• The student is still in high school.

• Specifies the course being retaken must fit the following criteria (Sec. 31):

• The course must provide the same instruction, subject matter, and content as the virtual course; 

• The retaken course cannot be virtual; 

• Student can receive full credit for completing the retaken course; and

• Grade received upon completion replaces the previous grade for the virtual course.

• Authorizes students that retook courses under these conditions prior to July 1, 2023 to petition their superintendent for credit (Sec. 31).
