Title: Access to Police Misconduct Investigations
Vote to pass a bill that grants public access to investigations and proceedings of peace officer disciplinary action.
- Allows public access to details of complaints against officers with the exception of the officers identity (sec. 1). - Allows the department that employs the officer under investigation to release information on an investigation in response to false statements made by the officer involved (sec. 1). - Establishes that, for cases prior to the Copley Press decision, only information allowed prior to the Copley Press decision may be released. In cases after the Copley Press decision, the specified entity may not release information in excess of what is specified in this bill (sec. 1). - Retains the legal right to withhold information only when the officers safety is at risk (sec. 1).
