Title: 2007-2008 Department of State Police Budget

Vote to adopt a conference report that appropriates funds for the Department of State Police for fiscal year 2007-2008.

Highlights:

-$566.5 million in federal and state funds to the Department of State Police (Sec. 101). -$112 million in federal and state funds for emergency management programs (Sec. 109). -$26 million in federal and state funds to employ 220 forensic scientists (Sec. 107). -$20.6 million in state funds to local units of governments for law enforcement, including $13.9 million to the Secondary Road Patrol Program and $5.5 million in justice training grants (Sec. 201). -Prohibits state departments and agencies from hiring any new full-time civil service employees or filling any vacant full-time civil service position. The state budget director is permitted to grant exceptions to the hiring freeze (Sec. 205). -Prohibits the use of appropriated funds for the purchase of foreign goods and services when competitively priced American goods and services of comparable quality are available.
