Vote to pass a bill increases homeowners’ property tax exemptions from the first $50,000 or 50% of market value (whichever is less) of “residential improvements” to the first $75,000 or 50% of market value (whichever is less) of the house and funds for schools’ maintenance and operation costs through an increased sales and use tax of 6.25% instead of through property taxes.
