Title: Board of Public Education Elections

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that submits a constitutional amendment to the voters that requires the Board of Public Education be elected beginning January 1, 2011, as opposed to being appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, as provided by existing law.

NOTE: AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION REQUIRES A TWO-THIRDS APPROVAL OF THE ENTIRE LEGISLATURE (CUMULATIVELY BETWEEN BOTH CHAMBERS), AND THEN MUST BE APPROVED BY THE PUBLIC BY A MAJORITY VOTE IN THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION.
