Title: Limitations on Redistricting
Vote to pass a bill that submits a constitutional amendment to the voters that would require all Montana Senate and House districts to be within a plus or minus one percent relative deviation from the ideal district population calculated using federal census data.
-Specifies that the relative deviation may be exceeded for a district in order to keep subdivisions intact or to comply with the federal Voting Rights Act (Sec. 1).
NOTE: AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION REQUIRES A TWO-THIRDS APPROVAL OF THE ENTIRE LEGISLATURE (CUMULATIVELY BETWEEN BOTH CHAMBERS), AND THEN MUST BE APPROVED BY THE PUBLIC BY A MAJORITY VOTE IN THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION.
