Reason for Seeking Public Office:

For the last twenty-four years I have served as the president and CEO of the Alabama Policy Institute (API), a research and education organization whose purpose is to identify, develop and promote sound public policies that emphasize a limited government, free markets, the rule of law and strong families. As a founder of the Alabama Policy Institute, I've worked with leaders at all levels to hold down taxes, eliminate waste and inefficiency, bring more transparency and integrity to state and federal government, and bring about historic education reform.

I believe we are living at a critical time. America faces unprecedented challenges. Obamacare's takeover of America's health care system is sending premiums skyrocketing and its crushing mandates on businesses are crippling their ability to create jobs. Our national debt is spiralling out of control threatening all that we hold dear and Congress still refuses to get a handle on runaway spending carrying on with business as usual. Our federal government is bloated beyond recognition from just a few generations ago because it has been pushed far beyond its Constitutional authority.

We are living at a critical time. It is a time for leadership.
Our nation desperately needs leaders who are willing to stand up and make the tough choices -- willing to do what needs to be done to get our nation's spending under control, get our economy growing again and create good jobs for American workers.

Our nation desperately needs leaders who are willing to uphold and defend the Constitution -- leaders who will unashamedly and courageously promote and defend the values upon which our nation was founded.

And so I have decided to run for Congress.
I'm running because I believe at their core, Americans still hold to the Constitution and to our founding values. I believe that Americans still want leaders who will require government to live within its means -- and within the limits placed upon it by the Constitution. The people haven't seen those values upheld in a long time. When they do, they respect the people who uphold them.

I'm running for Congress because I believe there's still time to right our course. But, that window of opportunity is closing. Our debt is an ominous threat to all we hold dear. We must deal with the federal debt, or our debt will deal with us.

It is a time for leadership.
Each of us are called to be responsible stewards of the opportunities we've been given. One day I'll have to give an account before my children and my grandchildren and ultimately, before God, for how I used my time and talent. I want to be able to say that I did all that I could do to preserve liberty and to get America back on the right course.

I know many of you feel the same way. And so I ask you to join with me in fighting for Constitutional limits on all branches of government, for balanced budgets, for the right to life and for sound economic policies that will allow our people to work and save and prosper again.

I ask you to stand with me to protect the liberties that previous generations have worked and fought so hard to provide for us.

I ask you to join me -- to get involved in my campaign.

I can't do this alone. I need your support.
