Priority Issues:
Gibbons has focused his legislative efforts on economic development, property tax reform and education funding, and reforming state government. A top priority is rebuilding downtown communities in Western Pennsylvania that were hit hard by the collapse of steel manufacturing in 1980's and continue to struggle to this day. His efforts have secured millions of dollars in state and federal investment to revitalize downtown business districts throughout the 10th legislative district. He has supported efforts to reduce or eliminate property taxes for senior citizens and working families while ensuring that our schools receive the funds necessary to provide our children with the education they need to succeed in the 21st century. Gibbons has pushed for legislation to increase accountability and save money for Pennsylvania taxpayers. He has introduced legislation to reduce the size of the legislature, enact term limits, permit recall of corrupt elected officials, and increase penalties for abuse of office and pay-to-play by public officials. In his first term, Gibbons helped to pass the current Open Records Law to make Pennsylvania government more accountable and in his own effort to enhance government transparency, he posts all of his legislative office expenses online. In 2014, he authored the law which provides whistleblower protection to legislative employees to encourage the reporting of illegal activity in the state legislature.
