What is the Political Courage Test?

Oklahoma Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I feel that abortion is largely a settled issue legally speaking and that my campaign has more pertinent issues to focus on. There is nothing more that the Democrats and Republicans would like to do then distract voters from the real issues. So they use abortion as one of those distractions. We are better served focusing on real issues facing this nation such as the debt and criminal justice reform.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
We need to balance the budget, reduce deficit spending, and start paying off the national debt. We can do all that while lowering taxes if we actually get serious about cutting spending. The Defense Department makes up the largest portion of Federal discretionary spending and is ripe for serious cuts that do not impact troop compensation or Veteran Affairs. There are also other areas of spending that should be cut including the Department of Education and the IRS.
No Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
No. The Firs Amendment is the first item of the Bill of Rights for a reason. People should be free to speak, print and otherwise communicate their political ideas without threat of force from the government. They should be free to organize as groups for that purpose. It is all outlined in that First Amendment.
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Mandatory minimums are a violation of due process. Judges and juries should be free to seek more lenient punishments if they feel the perpetrator would be more harmed by a harsher sentence. Additionally, we should review our criminal code and eliminate crimes completely, especially crimes that have no real victim.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Unknown Position Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
The government has no business trying to stimulate economic growth. That is the job of people and businesses who have real stakes in economic growth. Federal spending, especially in a deficit, manipulation of the tax code, and tax payer funded incentive programs and subsidies, do nothing but steal money from productive citizens and businesses and push those funds to businesses and programs that people really don't want. Additionally, we should eliminate the income tax completely.
No Do you generally support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
The Federal government has no business in education at all. We need to close the Department of Education and let states and local communities decide for themselves how they want to teach their children. 50 or more hotbeds of education innovation will provide a much more competitive and successful education climate than a single top down approach.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
No Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
Unknown Position Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
If the Keystone XL pipeline is to be built, it should be done by the companies with a controlling stake, and not on the tax payer dime. Additionally, eminent domain should not be used to do so. The government needs to stop picking winners and losers in the energy sector and let the best energy sources and providers survive and thrive on their own merits and not on who can get the best tax payer funded subsidies.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Humans do have an impact, but I have seen no convincing evidence that we are the sole and most damaging cause. The earth has a long natural history of climate change. Yet for some reason, natural causes are not what is happening now? Should people be more responsible in how we treat our planet, including earth, water and air? Yes. But more regulation will not accomplish that. We should focus more on property rights and allow polluters to face real consequences for their actions.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
The second amendment is clear, we have a right to bear arms. That includes everything from knives and swords to guns of any variety. Law abiding citizens are not a danger and never will be. No amount of gun regulation will prevent those intent on doing harm from doing so. The greatest violent acts to be perpetrated on US soil were not done using guns, but home made explosives and jumbo jets. Regulating or banning guns will not solve anything.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Additionally, I would go further and repeal all federal insurance mandates and regulations. We need to open up the insurance market to true competition. That will actually result in lower prices for consumers and hospitals. There are other aspects of Federal regulation that result in increased medical costs that can be repealed. We should explore those areas and fix the root cause of overpriced health care, government regulation.
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Our immigration code is complicated and nearly unenforceable. To believe that we can somehow deport or otherwise kick out the 11-12 million "illegal" immigrants in the US is insane. I believe that those already here need to be given a simple and fast path toward legalization and then we need to completely rework our immigration system to something simple and easy that can be completed in less than a year. The right of people to live and work where they feel best for them should not be infringed.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
I support right of the people to love whomever they choose and express that love in whatever way they choose. Marriage should be of no concern of the government on any level. I believe that laws restricting marriage need to be abolished. This include restriction on same-sex marriage as well as plural marriages. If all parties are willing, and of age of consent, then they should be free to express that union in whatever way they wish.
No Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Iraq and Syria beyond air support?
We need to pull out of military acts of aggression. Our military should be used solely for our own defense and we have no business being the aggressor in any conflict. We need to end the assassination by drone program used by both Bush and Obama and treat all potential hostilities with something more closely resembling due process. Bombing weddings, funerals, and hospitals and invading sovereign nations are no way to build positive relationships with foreign nations.
Yes Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
I support getting rid of our current social security program and replacing it with a private system. Our current program has devolved into nothing more than a costly and unstable ponzi scheme. People should be free to invest in their retirement how they choose and should be responsible for their own futures.

If the program is not expressly authorized by the US Constitution as a duty of the federal government, it needs to be eliminated. If the program is authorized by the Constitution, then we need to audit and reform it to be as effective and efficient as can be.
The 16th amendment should be repealed and people should be free to keep their legally earned income. By eliminating unnecessary government programs, we can cut and eliminate nearly all Federally mandated taxes as well as abolish the IRS.
My goals are 1) To end federal prohibition on marijuana and hemp growth, production and sales, decriminalize all other drugs, seek an end to mandatory minimums and the repeal of all crimes that have no real victim. 2) To end all acts of aggression, including bringing all our troops home for foreign engagements, closing all military bases not on US or US Territory soil, end Federal foreign aid programs and leave NATO. 3) to Balance the budget and reduce the debt by eliminating wasteful government spending, including closing of agencies and programs not expressly authorized by the US Constitution.
