What is the Political Courage Test?

Colorado State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
In Colorado the voters have limited the use of public funds and I would not let the legislature change the voters choice

1) Budget Stabilization:Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Colorado's budget.

a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Colorado's budget must be balanced by law. Medicaid and health care needs an expanded conversation and will be a negotiation. In Colorado taxes may only be raised by a vote of the people
a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
No c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
In Colorado there are voters imposed limits on campaigns. I support voter choices. In Colorado we use mail in ballots for everyone.
a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Capital punishment is so rarely used and has become meaningless. The Governor does not allow executions to proceed. Juries are reluctant to impose the death penalty. The voters of Colorado have legalized marijuana, I support the choices the voters have made, regardless of the issue.
a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Colorado?
Yes g) Do you support increasing state funding for improving Colorado's roads and bridges?
I support programs that are available to everyone. For programs that have more would-be participants than openings, I support an open, transparent, competitive bidding process. Regulations should only be those necessary for good government, so if the regulations are not needed they should be eliminated. Colorado voters have set the minimum wage.
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Colorado?
b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
No c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Colorado high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
public charter schools receive state support
a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
No d) Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
Colorado voters have set requirements for renewable energy. I support voters choices. It is my understanding all public Colorado water providers meet clean water standards.
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
No d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
Colorado has regulations on gun shows. Individual districts should be empowered to meet their individual situations as they see fit.
No a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
No b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through Colorado's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
Colorado voters have approved a person's right to die. I support the choices of the voters.
a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Colorado's anti-discrimination laws?
b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Colorado's anti-discrimination laws?
c) Do you support greater efforts by Colorado state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
Colorado has vigorous anti-discrimination laws.
1. Residential growth must pay for the costs it imposes on society. Just as cities charge a water tap for new residential growth, in over-capacity areas of Colorado the state should charge a road network tap fee. 2. Colorado should take ownership of mistakes that government has made. RTD is a failure and waste of resources. The dishonesty of over-promised state pensions must be addressed. The school funding formula is rigged to benefit rich districts 3. The state has no mandate to fund health care, a global conversation is overdue. Heath care costs will bankrupt Colorado.
