What is the Political Courage Test?

North Carolina Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Investing our federal tax dollars directly into programs that benefit the middle class and stimulate job growth makes much more sense than reducing federal revenues by cutting taxes on those who have the most to give. Universal healthcare, public education, renewable energy technologies, and infrastructure overhaul are all investments that will create millions of jobs, grow the economy, and expand the tax base.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I believe that we should have some minimum standards established by the federal government, but the individual states should shoot for much higher results.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Investments in renewable energy including solar, wind, hydro-power, micro-hydro power and more will create 1000s of jobs. Building green energy efficient public buildings will reduce our carbon foot print. We need to expand our forests lands and grow more trees to encapsulate the carbon in the air. We could grow hemp for fiber, textiles and to manufacture biodegradable plastics; the production of hemp will also off set our carbon footprint.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Support commonsense gun legislation that the majority of Americans agree with, we must protect our children, our schools, churches and other public locations. Gun violence has become common in America and we need to limit access to guns for those that have been documented to harm humans, their self or animals. I support the 2nd amendment and believe that we can do more to protect all Americans from gun violence. We must study the root cause on this increase in violence and implement solutions; our children are afraid and we need to protect them from harm.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I support Improved Medicare for All. The Affordable Care Act has helped many including me, but it still leaves many Americans without healthcare. I believe we need bold solutions and Improved Medicare for All will create a healthcare system in America that will create jobs, allow the government to negotiate fair drug prices, and cut out the profit in our healthcare system. Quality healthcare is a right and all humans should have access to it regardless of social or economic status.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Immigrants are fleeing their homeland for a reason; they are seeking protection and a better life just as all the immigrants before them. The USA was built by immigrants and immigrants contribute to our economy and tax base, we must implement a humane path to citizenship, hire more judges to accelerate the process, and keep our promise to DACA recipients. I support the DREAM Act of 2012.
No Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
I support a strengthened state dept. I believe that diplomacy backed up by sanctions can be more effective than violence. I believe that the sooner we get off of oil and onto 100% renewable energy, the better things will be for us in the middle east.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
Implementing expanded and improved Medicare for All and addressing Climate change. As important as any issue would be removing corporate money and influence out of politics and government in general. Investments in universal healthcare and renewable energy could be made by repealing the Tax Cut and Jobs Act to raise federal revenues. We also need to reevaluate our defense budget where we could cut over $200 billion. We need to end the $50 billion/year "war on drugs" and close all private/for-profit prisons.
