Jennifer Pingley submitted the 2020 Political Courage Test after the official deadline.
Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
While abortion is not my personal choice, I cannot push my opinion on to others. I'm all for cooling off periods, mandatory counseling, and having the counselors making referrals to appropriate care centers to avoid healthcare worker ethical dilemmas. A rape or incest victim should never have to make the decision between their right to privacy and filing charges against the assailant so they can get an abortion. I fully support prevention through education and improved access to birth control methods. I am truly disappointed that research around transplanting fetuses is essentially nonexistent. I would absolutely fund that. |
Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
It must be done in a fiscally prudent manner. My "Primary Care for All Citizens" legislation covers visits to primary care 100% starting with the current Medicare population. American studies prove that moving to the proactive healthcare model greatly reduces costs, keeps people healthier, happier and out of the hospital. While it has upfront costs I believe the program will pay for itself in 3 years. Phase 2 would roll out to children and phase 3 to the rest of the citizens. This plan can stand alone or used as a step to Univeral healthcare if desired. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? |
Yes | Do you support increasing defense spending?
National defense requires more and more technology, which is expensive. As we have found out in the recent pandemic, we need to be directing more funding for biological defense. Always, evaluating the effectiveness of the spending is key for additional spending. |
Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
I am not convinced that trickle down economics works. Now, this next part is only my opinion based on personal observations. However, all the people and businesses I know and I would consider 'rich' got that way and stay that way by avoiding spending money. So, I'm not convinced that giving them a way to avoid sepending money on taxes will actually equate to them putting that money back into the economy directly or into their workers' pockets so the workers' can stimulate the economy. |
Yes | Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
How can expect the future generations to have a specific baseline of knowledge from which to operate, if there is not a set of national standards? |
Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? |
Yes | Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Within reason. I believe in the 2nd Amendment but understand that there are a few people who are not safe or are too irresponsible to have armaments. I cannot have the few spoiling things for the rest of us. |
No | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Like it or not, more people have insurance because of the Affordable Care Act. That doesn't mean it's perfect. However, currently it is a necessity. Passing my 'Primary care for All' legislation would be compatible with the ACA and would directly drive down costs for everyone. |
No | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
No. Primarily because this policy will require me to spend the money to send them back. Right now, if they are otherwise be elligible to lawfully be here, they still have sanctuary cities to help them get on the path to citizenship. Secondly, this has the potential to punish children for the sins of their parents, which requires very careful consideration. |
Yes | Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes | Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
As a broad statement: Humanitarian military intervention is always acceptable to prevent genocide or to stop a government from turning on its people. However, it is the responsibility of the people and the governments to chose peace. They have to be the ones to work it out amongst themselves without dragging other countries into it. We can offer our best conflict resolution services to assist with the conversations. |
No | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
This has to be legislation specific. Trade is constantly evolving and intricate. I would need to evaluate the needs of my District and the impact of each. |
