  • Rated 0% by Planned Parenthood Action Fund (votesmart.org)
  • "[...] we must stand together to protect the unborn and restore the sanctity of life. The Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act is just a start." (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of H.R. 3803 "District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of H.R. 4712 "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "I am a strong supporter of scrapping the existing IRS code and starting over from scratch with a low flat tax that is fair for all Americans." (jones.house.gov)
  • Signed a pledge stating: "I will [...] oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses" (votesmart.org)
  • "At a time when this nation is over $15 trillion in debt, we simply can't afford it. If the President weren't spending that money in Afghanistan, the depth of reductions in military spending here at home would be far less necessary." (votesmart.org)
  • "Congress passed a budget deal that increased defense spending over the next 2 years by over $80 billion a year. I did not vote for this bill. We already have a national debt of over $18 trillion, and I cannot, in good conscience, vote to add $1.5 trillion to the debt." (votesmart.org)
  • "Since the Citizens United and SpeechNow.org decisions in 2010, I have witnessed the influence of money in politics become more and more pervasive […] I see its influence shape policy in Washington to the detriment of the American people all the time." (votesmart.org)
  • "[...] we cannot change Citizens United unless we go back through the legal process, but we can have an alternative. That is what the John Sarbanes bill does, so I hope Republicans and Democrats will look seriously at becoming cosponsors." (votesmart.org)
  • "You and I both know that Citizens United that said that a corporation is an individual has created a lot of the problems that we face today. I will say that the American people need to get behind what you are trying to do, what Mr. Sarbanes is trying to do--and I, in a lesser way--to return the power of the people to the people […]" (votesmart.org)
  • "It is essential that Congress reform our regulatory, legal, tax, trade and fiscal environment so that U.S. employers can grow their businesses and put unemployed Americans back to work. I am committed to that cause and vote accordingly on the House floor. To get on track, we need to reduce regulatory impediments to job creation, improve the legal environment for job creators, keep taxes low, and dramatically reduce federal spending. What we don't need is more government "stimulus." In my opinion, the record shows that more government will impede, not stimulate, job creation. That is why I voted against President Obama's wasteful $1 trillion "stimulus" bill." (votesmart.org)
  • "We also need a tax code that encourages economic growth and job creation here at home. I am a strong supporter of scrapping the existing IRS code and starting over from scratch with a low flat tax that is fair for all Americans." (jones.house.gov)
  • "Since its inception, the Department of Education has grown into an unrecognizable federal beast, and its policies have helped foster Common Core across the country. It is time the one-size-fits-all approach by the federal government is ended and authority is returned to the local level." (votesmart.org)
  • "Under the Tenth Amendment, authority over our education systems is reserved for the individual states, not the federal government, making the Department of Education's overreach in this area clearly unconstitutional." (jones.house.gov)
  • Signed a letter stating a: "Call for Permanent End to Wind Production Tax Credit" (votesmart.org)
  • Signed a letter stating: "Extending the wind PTC is a key priority for the Obama Administration and its efforts to prop up wind and other favored "green energy" technologies. Under President Obama, federal subsidies for wind have grown from $476 million per year when he first took office to $4.98 billion per year today. According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, a one-year extension of the wind PTC would cost American taxpayers over $13.35 billion. Proponents of the wind PTC continue to call for an extension despite growing evidence that this subsidy has not only cost taxpayers billions, but has caused significant price distortions in wholesale electricity markets. The U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) has expanded the value of the Wind PTC over the years so that today it is worth 2.3 cents per kilowatt hour produced. The Senate-passed tax extenders package included an extension of the PTC which was inserted into the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. Treasury has interpreted the Senate modification expansively and issued guidance that if a wind project developer merely places a 5% deposit on a project initiated in 2013, it will have at least until 2015 and possibly 2016 to place the project in service and obtain the PTC. This means that a wind project that "begins construction" in 2013 could receive subsidies until 2026. By ending this program now we will have given the wind industry a more than generous phase-out for a credit that is being awarded to a mature technology with over 61,100 megawatts of generation installed across the country and 13,400 megawatts under development in 21 states. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, over 43% of all electric generation nameplate capacity additions in 2012 were from wind, overtaking natural-gas fired generation as the leading source of new power generation. This increase in wind development is occurring despite flat demand for power leading to a strain on the electric grid and threatening reliability due to the dramatic increase in an intermittent power resource as a share of the market." (votesmart.org)
  • "In recent years the federal government has in too many instances veered away from common-sense environmental protection and instead pursued an ideological agenda. These policies destroy jobs and do little, if anything, to help the people, wildlife or plants they purport to protect." (votesmart.org)
  • "[...] I voted against his 'Cap-and-Trade' proposal and against Obamacare." (votesmart.org)
  • "The EPA has been out of control for a long time, especially in the Obama era" (votesmart.org)

This candidate has responded to a Political Courage Test in a previous election. As a continued effort to provide the American public with factual information on candidates running for public office, these archived responses are made available here.
The Political Courage Test asks candidates which items they will support if elected. It does not ask them to indicate which items they will oppose. Through extensive research of public polling data, we discovered that voters are more concerned with what candidates would support when elected to office, not what they oppose. If a candidate does not select a response to any part or all of any question, it does not necessarily indicate that the candidate is opposed to that particular item.
