Rep. Roybal-Allard Announces Support of Iran Nuclear Deal

Statement

Today, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued the following statement supporting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear agreement reached between the P5+1 nations and Iran:

"After careful study of public and classified information, extensive discussions with people on both sides of the issue, and much thought and deliberation, I have concluded that supporting the Iran deal is the best option that we have at this time to prevent Iran from having nuclear weapons. While this deal is not perfect, I believe it offers us the best possible chance to stop Iran's nuclear weapons program. I am also concerned that if the United States does not support the deal, that could potentially isolate us from our partners who have given all indications that they are not prepared to walk away from the deal.

"However, if this deal is approved, we will still have to exercise ongoing vigilance. If we develop suspicions that Iran is violating the terms of the deal, we will have to take the necessary steps to ensure Iran's compliance. And we will have to continue working with our allies in the region -- including our greatest ally, Israel -- to keep moving the Middle East on a path towards peace and stability."
