Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement following Pope Francis' address to a Joint Session of Congress:
"It was a true honor and privilege to listen to Pope Francis' address to Congress. His message was powerful, uplifting and sought to inspire cooperation. While he acknowledged the many challenges we face, he called on us all to rise to the occasion and be better people, both as individuals and as a collective society.
"Pope Francis is right: we all have a responsibility to make the world a better place. To care for those who are less fortunate or in poverty. To tend to our planet -- our common home -- and leave it in a better condition than when we inherited it. America, as the Pope said, is still a "land of dreams.' It is my hope that Members of Congress and all Americans can heed Pope Francis' vision so that our children, and our children's children, can continue to dream and succeed."
