On the heels of the Obama Administration's announcement that it will appeal yesterday's Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling to continue to block the President's Deferred Action for Parental Accountability Program (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA), Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34) issued the following statement:

"Thank you, President Obama, for moving swiftly to exact justice after the harsh blow by the appellate court to so many families across America who deserve a chance to live and work out of the shadows. We are a nation of immigrants, and despite having escaped the attention of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, we are a nation of laws.

"It is sad to see how politics has infected our courts of justice. The Fifth Circuit Court's ruling blocking deferred action under DACA and DAPA for hardworking families flies in the face of settled law. Deferred action has been used by past U.S. Presidents of both parties, including Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, to address immigration issues for half a century.

"I commend the Department of Justice for saying it will promptly seek further review by the Supreme Court of the appellate court's misguided ruling. When the Supreme Court rules, we'll be on the right side of history.
