Congressman Guthrie Votes to Reaffirm Opposition to President Obama's Executive Amnesty and Defend the Constitution

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today voted for H. Res. 639, legislation authorizing the Speaker of the House to appear as amicus curiae on behalf of the House of Representatives in the matter of United States v. Texas.

"In 2014, the President exceeded his authority by unilaterally granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. This resolution is an important step to ensure that President Obama's executive actions are stopped," said Congressman Guthrie.

H. Res. 639 allows the Speaker of the House to file an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in support of the states opposing President Obama's executive actions on immigration. On April 18, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the United States v. Texas court case which will determine whether or the not the President's Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) program and expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are constitutional.

"The submission of a brief demonstrates that the House of Representatives is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and the separation of powers outlined in the Constitution. Congress is responsible for writing the laws of this country, not the President," added Congressman Guthrie.
