DelBene Supports Bipartisan Bill to Replace "No Child Left Behind"

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today voted for a bipartisan reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

"Expanding opportunity for the next generation starts by ensuring every child has access to a great education," DelBene said. "I'm glad Congress is replacing this outdated law with a system that maintains high standards for student achievement, while providing states and districts with the tools and flexibility needed to help all students reach their full potential. This legislation will bring meaningful and much-needed reforms to federal education policies for Washington's students, educators and school districts."

Lawmakers -- led by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) -- reached a compromise between House- and Senate-passed bills to reauthorize ESEA, which hadn't been updated in nearly 15 years.

The final bill, called the Every Student Succeeds Act, passed the House by a 359-64 vote and now heads to the Senate for further action.
