Today, Steve Santarsiero announced the endorsement of the largest federation of unions for his primary race in Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District. At the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO convention on Monday, the organization's members voted overwhelmingly to back Santarsiero.
"With a record of standing up for working families and fighting to create good paying jobs, Steve Santarsiero is the pro-labor candidate in the race for Congress," said AFL-CIO PA President Rick Bloomingdale. "The AFL-CIO is proud to endorse Steve Santarsiero's campaign for Congress and we know that once elected, Steve will continue working for everyday Americans."
"I've fought to bring jobs to Pennsylvania, stood up to ensure that every worker can make ends meet, and advocated for our seniors to retire with dignity and security," said Steve Santarsiero. "I'm proud to have the support and endorsement of the AFL-CIO and I know that, together, we will go to Washington to continue fighting for Pennsylvania working families."
The AFL-CIO endorsement comes on the heels of significant momentum for the campaign. During the first quarter Santarsiero received the endorsement of Governor Tom Wolf, both the Bucks and Montgomery County Democratic Parties, the Sierra Club, and several labor unions including AFSCME, NEA/PSEA and the United Steel Workers -- bringing the total above twenty. The last public polling of the race has Santarsiero up by fifteen points.
