U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) said today that FEMA has already given more than $20 million in individual assistance to West Virginians impacted by recent flooding. Rep. Jenkins made the announcement after a call with FEMA officials to discuss the latest news and actions in West Virginia.

More than 6,000 West Virginia households have registered for FEMA assistance, and more than 5,000 homes have been inspected by FEMA officials. Of those, more than 4,000 reports have been completed -- meaning that the process is moving quickly for West Virginians who have registered.

"This update from FEMA was encouraging, as West Virginia families are getting cash assistance to help them meet their day-to-day needs and start the rebuilding process. I spoke with FEMA about the need to identify potential residential units for displaced residents," Rep. Jenkins said.

"I also brought up the struggle of many small businesses to clean up and reopen and will continue to work with FEMA and the Small Business Administration to identify and publicize as many grants and assistance programs as possible. In order to bring our communities back, we must help people rebuild their lives and ensure small businesses reopen to provide good jobs and serve their neighbors."
