No child should have their future determined by the zip code into which they are born. The role of the federal government has and should continue to support programs such as Title I and Special Education programming to ensure a more even playing field in public education.

Our current education system is too reliant on standardized tests to measure a student's growth and a teacher's job performance. Instead, local school districts must be allowed to use multiple performance measures, ensuring that methods for teaching children important skills not found on standardized tests are not seen as superfluous. I will continue to advocate for these regulatory reforms in our national education policy while also fighting for increased investments in our schools. Our teachers play a great role in the lives of our children they teach, and their important work should be celebrated, not scapegoated, especially as they have been provided with less resources year-after-year in order to succeed.
