Today, former Congressman Joe Garcia joined elected and community leaders in signing the "Pledge for Pulse." In the pledge, Garcia commits to voting for common sense gun reform in Congress in order to prevent future tragedies like the Pulse shooting from taking place.

"In the past year I've had to attend too many vigils and town halls in honor of slain children, family members and friends as a result of gun violence," said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida's 26th Congressional District. "I have sat with grieving mothers in my community and I have felt their pain. I am committed to passing sensible gun reform in Washington for the sake of families in South Florida and across the country."

Joe Garcia has been a long-time advocate of responsible gun laws, including an assault weapons ban, background checks on all gun sales and transfers as well the closing of gun show loopholes that allow guns to enter the black market and the hands of criminals. Garcia's Republican opponent Carlos Curbelo has received top scores from the NRA because he opposes responsible gun laws. Curbelo has voted against background checks on gun purchases, for relaxed gun restrictions and even voted to allow suspected terrorists to buy assault rifles.
