U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) lauded today's announcement that the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) will soon have direct flight options to London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) through British Airways.

"Having a nonstop flight option from Louisiana to Europe will certainly be a major boost to our state's economy and tourism industry," said Vitter. "More than just offering convenient travel between New Orleans and London, today's announcement will open up a whole host of business opportunities for Louisiana's entrepreneurs and job creators."

Vitter graduated from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and in August attended the Farnborough Airshow near London to promote small business and regional interests in the global aviation industry as Chairman of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

Today's announcement opens new travel options for Louisianians from the State's busiest airport to Europe's busiest airport and will provide expanded international travel options for both Louisianians and the millions of Americans who live along throughout Gulf Coast region. MSY ceased direct-flights to Europe in 1982, and today's announcement comes after years of negotiations between local and state leaders, as well as industry professionals and local residents.
