Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34) issued the following statement on the 2017 Open Enrollment season.
"Starting today and through January 31st, Americans have the opportunity to choose quality, affordable health insurance plans for 2017, offered by the federal Marketplace or state exchanges. Open Enrollment season puts health care in reach for millions of hardworking Americans.
"Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), more than 20 million people have accessed affordable care, including more than 2.5 million Californians. The ACA opened the doors for anyone with a pre-existing condition to get care, for individuals under 26 to stay on a parent's plan, and made sure that women cannot be charged more than men.
"Right now, roughly 85 percent of Americans who receive their insurance through the ACA benefit from tax credits to keep their out-of-pocket costs low. There's more Congress can do to keep health care costs down, such as pushing for a national public option and tackling rising prescription drug prices, but no one should overlook this: 7 in 10 people who shop in the Marketplace could save an average of $682 in annual premiums next year."
