I Voted No on the Thin Blue Line Act (H.R. 115)

Statement

Date: May 18, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Death Penalty

Today I proudly voted NO on the Thin Blue Line Act (H.R. 115). This bill would expand the number of provoking factors for implementing the death penalty in three key ways: 1) it is duplicative, 2) it runs counter to reconciliation efforts between law enforcement and our communities, and 3) it will not deter the behavior it attempts to confront. Instead of taking votes on detrimental legislation like the Thin Blue Line Act, we should focus our attention on putting into place real, thoughtful reforms that help to protect our law enforcement officers, first responders and the communities they serve.
