Press Release

Date: Jan. 24, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today voted for H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017, which would prohibit the federal government from using any taxpayer money to indirectly or directly fund abortion.

"Taxpayer money should not be used to fund abortions," said Guthrie. "Tragically, Obamacare circumvented existing law to allow subsidized plans in the exchanges to cover abortion. This is unacceptable. Today I was proud to support this lifesaving bill that would that would prevent government-funded abortions."

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act would make current policy that prevents taxpayer funding of abortion permanent across the entire federal government. The bill also would require insurance plans to disclose coverage of abortions so that consumers can make informed decisions about the health insurance coverage they choose.

House passage of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017 precedes the annual March for Life, which will take place this Friday, January 26th, on the anniversary of the infamous Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

"On Friday, thousands will come to Washington, D.C., in support of the unborn," continued Guthrie. "I urge my colleagues in the Senate to heed the call of these Americans who are marching for an end to abortion and pass the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act as soon as possible."
