Rep. Jenkins Announces Appropriations Subcommittee Assignments

Press Release

Date: Jan. 12, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) will serve on the following subcommittees of the House Appropriations Committee during the 115th Congress:

Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies,
Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, and
Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies.
"I look forward to working with House Appropriations Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen to advance West Virginia's priorities on these three subcommittees. Each offers its own perspective on addressing issues important to West Virginia.

"West Virginia has had enough of the Obama administration's war on coal, and through my role on the Interior Subcommittee, I've been able to cut millions of dollars that would have been used to kill coal jobs. I will continue to use my role on this committee to make sure taxpayer dollars are not being spent on needless, costly and job-killing rules and regulations.

"On the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee, I will prioritize investments in combatting the opioid and drug crisis plaguing our state and our nation. We will fund programs that work, including ones that help people recover from addiction and stop drug trafficking in our communities.

"Nearly 10 percent of West Virginians have served in uniform, and I hear from veterans dissatisfied with the care they receive at our Veterans Affairs' facilities. I met VA Secretary Robert McDonald to make sure a permanent veterans' clinic is reopened in Greenbrier County, and this subcommittee will supervise this important project. Through the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee, I will be able to oversee spending at the VA and hold them accountable for how our veterans are treated."

The Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee allocates funding for the Commerce Department, the Justice Department, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and several related independent agencies.

The Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee oversees spending within the Interior Department and the Environmental Protection Agency, among other agencies.

The Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Subcommittee oversees the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs, all military construction projects, and other related agencies.
