Promise Kept to Our Miners

Statement

Date: May 3, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) voted today to provide a permanent solution for miners' benefits and keep the government open for the remainder of the fiscal year.

"Our miners were made a promise, and now, we are keeping that promise. Miners, their families, and their widows have been asking Congress for years and years to get this done. Now, thanks to the support of House and Senate leadership and President Trump, we were able to secure this permanent solution -- and peace of mind -- for our miners and their families. This agreement is yet another victory for West Virginia in this Congress, where we are stopping the Obama administration's anti-coal policies. I will continue to fight for our miners and all West Virginians as we start work on next year's funding bills," Rep. Jenkins said.

The House voted 309-118 Wednesday afternoon to pass H.R. 244, the Consolidated Appropriations Act.
