Congressman Cheney Cosponsors the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017

Press Release

Date: Jan. 25, 2017
Issues: Abortion

Yesterday, Wyoming Congressman Liz Cheney, a member of the Rules Committee, managed debate on the House Floor concerning the rule for consideration of H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017. Congressman Cheney also co-sponsored this bill, which makes the Hyde Amendment permanent and expands it to all federal agencies. Despite President Obama's promise to the contrary, under Obamacare federal funds are being used to subsidize insurance plans that include abortion services. H.R.7 is necessary to end that.

"The Hyde Amendment is responsible for saving the lives of at least two million babies, making this policy permanent will save countless more. We have a responsibility to stand up and fight for the most vulnerable among us, and I am proud to help lead that effort," said Cheney.

When President Obama was forcing his deeply flawed health care law on the American people, he assured us during a joint session of Congress that; "Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place." However, like many of the promises the President made about his health care law, that claim proved to be false. According to a 2014 report authored by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, over 1,000 insurance plans in the federal exchanges provide abortion coverage. Those plans are purchased with taxpayer subsidies and are in direct violation to the Hyde Amendment and the promise made by President Obama. As we work to repeal Obamacare and repair our health care system, H.R. 7 will prevent any future plans under Obamacare from using taxpayer dollars to cover abortions.

Congressman Cheney co-sponsored and voted for H.R. 7, which passed the U. S. House of Representatives by a 238-183 vote.
