Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) -- ranking member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee -- released the following statement today as leaders of the Senate and its Banking and Foreign Relations Committees reached a bipartisan agreement with the leadership of the House and its Foreign Affairs Committee to move forward with comprehensive sanctions legislation to hold Iran, Russia and North Korea accountable.

"This tough, comprehensive sanctions bill holds North Korea and Iran accountable for their actions and sends a clear message to Moscow that the United States will not tolerate Russian attacks on democracy - from interference in our elections to aggression in Ukraine," Brown said. "North Korea must face consequences for its nuclear weapons and missile testing program and its human rights abuses, including the despicable actions that took the life of Otto Warmbier and its continued imprisonment of American citizens. I expect swift passage of this bipartisan legislation in both the House and Senate, and I urge President Trump to sign it. "
