Congressman Norcross Appointed to Defense Subcommittees

Press Release

Date: Feb. 8, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) has been appointed to serve on two House Armed Services subcommittees with jurisdiction over the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and our nation's nuclear weapons.

"I'm fighting to ensure our military is ready to meet any challenge, at home or anywhere in the world," Norcross said. "As the father of a veteran, supporting our men and women in uniform is personal for me. We must give our service members the tools and resources they need to complete their mission and continue to support them after their service."

Norcross was appointed to the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, which oversees our nation's nuclear weapons, ballistic missile defense and national security space programs; and the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, which has oversight over the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force.

Norcross is one of only two New Jersey representatives, and the state's only Democrat, to serve on the Armed Services Committee. He has been a leader in Congress on national security issues. In the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act, he successfully included provisions to invest in manufacturing research at our local universities, promote project labor agreements in defense contracts, and bolster a joint US-Israel ballistic missile defense project. Last month, Norcross announced a new fleet of new Boeing KC-46 air-refueling tanker planes will be based at New Jersey's Joint Base McGuire--Dix--Lakehurst, strengthening our security and securing thousands of jobs.

In addition to his service on the Armed Services Committee, Norcross also serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and as a Democratic Assistant Whip.
