Congressman Ryan released the following statement in response to President Trump's proposed tax plan.

"The Trump Administration's proposed tax cuts just don't add up. Once again a Republican Administration has been proven to be utterly disinterested in fiscal responsibility as long as their millionaire and billionaire friends get huge tax breaks, regardless if hardworking, middle class Americans get stuck paying the bill. While I am in agreement that we must simplify the insanely complex U.S. tax code and believe we need to reduce our corporate tax rate so our country can be more competitive in the global market, it can't be done in a way that passes along the expenses to the middle class, which is already squeezed. President Trump's tax proposal is not tax reform, but it is instead more George W. Bush-style tax cuts, which put our country in the worst economic recession since the Great Depression. The President's plan makes no mention of closing special interest loopholes, how to pay for any of it, and how much it will increase our national debt. This is an ideological proposal and would be a blow to the economic health of the United States. I cannot support it," said Congressman Ryan.
