House Adopts Kildee Amendment to Increase the Number of Veterans in Public Service

The U.S. House of Representatives has unanimously adopted an amendment introduced by Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) that will provide more opportunities for wounded veterans to continue to serve by working in congressional offices.

The House late Wednesday evening adopted an amendment to H.R. 3219, the defense "minibus" spending bill, which will expand the House of Representatives Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program, which provides wounded post-9/11 veterans the opportunity to serve in two-year paid fellowships within the House.

"We need more veterans in public service and my amendment would help provide additional opportunities for veterans to serve their country in Congress as legislative fellows," said Congressman Kildee. "Veterans bring a unique perspective and experience unlike any other to Congress. We need their voices now more than ever."

Congressman Kildee's amendment, which has the support of Republicans and Democrats, expands the existing wounded warrior program by $250,000.

The Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program was recently expanded, but there is still a significant waiting list of 79 congressional offices who would like to host a wounded warrior fellow. Congressman Kildee's amendment will further expand the program and provide additional opportunities for veterans to serve in Congress.
