Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pave the way for once-in-a-generation tax reform by concuring with the Senate Amendment to H. Con. Res. 71 - FY2018 Budget Resolution, which issues specific reconciliation instructions for the appropriate authorizing committees in each Chamber to produce tax reform legislation. Seventh District Rep. Rob Woodall, who serves on the House Budget Committee as well as the Committee on Rules, led debate to bring the legislation to the floor, and he issued the following statement supporting its passage.
"It has been 31 years since we reformed America's tax code, and in that time America has slipped from having one of the very best tax codes on the planet to having one of the worst. Undeniably, that slide has cost America in the form of fewer jobs and lower wages. With this vote today, we now have the opportunity to provide the most comprehensive, fundamental reform since Ronald Reagan was in office," said Rep. Woodall. "Reform that leverages our shared principles of fairness and simplicity for the American people is now within reach. Our quest to create more American jobs and higher American wages is one step closer to completion. Though we are one enormous step closer to our shared goals, we have more work to do, and I am committed to continuing our partnership that will send a final tax reform package to the White House for the President's signature."
