Carson Statement on Republican CHIP Reauthorization Vote

Statement

Date: Nov. 3, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Historically, funding for public health priorities such as the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) has had strong bipartisan support. Unfortunately, today Republicans forced a vote on a partisan bill that would provide healthcare for some at the expense of others, undermining these programs, cutting other essential health programs, and weakening coverage for too many Americans. Instead of extending these programs on time, Republicans abandoned them, wasting months by prioritizing their crusade to repeal the Affordable Care Act and take healthcare from millions.

At a time when Republicans are pursuing a $1.5 trillion budget-busting tax cut, robbing Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and public health programs makes no sense. Congress needs to fix this now with a clean bill that guarantees all Hoosiers access to the care they need.
