Fortenberry Statement on House Passing Tax Reform

Statement

Date: Nov. 16, 2017
Location: Lincoln, NE
Issues: Taxes

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) today issued the following statement after the United States House of Representatives passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

"This is a constructive attempt at broad tax reform to help hardworking American families, revive our small business sector, and empower the Made in America label. It will help address the disruption of globalism, the stagnation of entrepreneurial energy on Main Street, and put money in the pockets of men and women striving to build a better future for their children.

"While input will continue over certain points in the bill, the overall movement toward simplification--with an eye toward fairness for all--is a substantive improvement on a tax system that has favored large, complex interests.

"This debate has not rehashed previous sterile, ideological battles. For example, the top rate is maintained for the ultra-wealthy--while for the vast majority of other groups it has gone down. The legislation is a serious effort to support the wellbeing of persons and our nation."

Fortenberry serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
