Congressman Johnson Statement on Passage of GOP's Guns Everywhere Bill

Statement

Date: Dec. 7, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement upon passage of the GOP's H.R. 38, the so-called "Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act" that creates a dangerous threat to public safety by forcing each state to recognize the concealed carry standards from every other state, even those that have dramatically weaker standards:

"Concealed Carry Reciprocity -- H.R. 38 -- is a chaotic, dangerous policy that would gut every state's gun laws and make our communities less safe. Rather than create a uniform standard, this bill would effectively turn the weakest state's laws into nationwide laws. It's outrageous that Congress is responding to two of the worst mass shootings in modern American history by weakening our federal gun laws. Preventing future tragedies can only happen when elected officials find the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and reject dangerous proposals like this one that put public safety at risk."
