Visclosky Statement on the Republican Tax Bill

Statement

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Congressman Visclosky released the following statement in response to the House passage of the Republican tax bill.

I opposed the Republican tax bill today because it is nothing more than a $1.5 trillion tax cut paid for by working class individuals and families.

This is a bad bill for our health care system because the elimination of the incentive for individuals to obtain health insurance will create further chaos in the insurance market, increase premiums, the number of uninsured citizens, and harm the effectiveness of hospitals and doctors.

True tax reform should provide greater equity among all taxpayers, encourage productive economic investments, and not increase our national deficit. The Republican tax bill meets none of those requirements and instead creates additional financial burdens, uncertainty, and instability in the lives of working Americans.
