Today, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ), member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Republican tax bill conference report.
"Tax reform should be an opportunity to set a framework in which all Americans are treated fairly, rewarded for their work, and invested in as human capital. Instead, the tax bill Republicans jammed through Congress today stacks the cards against working Americans while rewarding big Republican donors and the Trump family," Rep. Pascrell said. "In this bill, Congress put its thumb on the scale for the wealthy and well-connected while exploding our deficit for years to come. With permanent, deep cuts for corporations and higher taxes for middle-class New Jerseyans, it will be harder to achieve the American Dream. Everything from health care to homeownership will be more expensive. This bill targets New Jersey, taking money from our pockets by reducing our ability to deduct state and local property and income taxes. I fought to keep those deductions, but my Republican colleagues blocked the effort. New Jerseyans know this is not tax reform. It's a tax scam, plain and simple."
