House Sends Senate Six-Year CHIP Bill

Statement

Date: Jan. 18, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement after voting tonight to pass critical legislation to reauthorize CHIP for six years and keep the federal government open:

"In November, I proudly voted for a long-term CHIP reauthorization, and I cast a vote on Thursday to pass a six-year extension of CHIP -- the longest reauthorization in the program's history. West Virginia's children and families can't afford another day of uncertainty," Rep. Jenkins said.

"I hope Senate Democrats will do the right thing and join us in shoring up this vital healthcare program for our most vulnerable children. If not, the failure to reauthorize CHIP and the closure of our federal government will rest solely with them."
