Wenstrup Statement on State of the Union

Statement

Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) released the following statement after President Trump delivered the State of the Union address to Congress:

"Tonight, President Trump outlined the successes of the last year and a vision for the future. Unemployment is at a 16-year low and 3.1 million people and counting have received bonuses or pay raises due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Tax reform and regulatory reform have laid a strong economic foundation that we will work to expand upon this year as we look toward an infrastructure package.

"I was encouraged to hear President Trump's commitment to rebuilding our military. Over the last year, 80 members of the armed forces were killed in training mishaps as a direct result of the readiness crisis, attributed to lack of funding, training, or both. This is unacceptable. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee, and President Trump, to restore America's military readiness, pursue peace through strength, and ensure our men and women in uniform have everything they need to get the job done.

"I also appreciate President Trump's attention to the opioid crisis, which has devastated communities across the country, including at home in Ohio.

"The President recognized many great Americans tonight. Among those, I'm grateful he brought to light what happened to Otto Warmbier, the Warmbier family, and to our nation as a whole, due to the heinous actions of the brutal North Korean regime. Otto is not forgotten, and we will not stop fighting for justice on his behalf.

"I look forward to continuing my work towards policies that benefit Ohio's Second District, and all of America," said Congressman Brad Wenstrup.
