Huizenga Statement on Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

Statement

Date: March 8, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

"I believe President Trump is sincere in his desire to push for better fair trade deals that strengthen our economy and create good-paying American jobs. I support that effort. The Administration made the right decision to grant exemptions for our vital North American trading partners. Policies of this nature should be designed to strictly focus on nations that flout fair trade practices, such as China, and other bad actors.

"That said, I also believe there is reasonable concern that other strategic allies and trading partners may be harmed by these overly broad tariffs. In order to avoid negative consequences and retaliatory actions that harm American businesses and raise prices on hardworking families, I encourage the Administration to immediately begin their expanded exemption process in a strategic way."
