House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran Nuclear Deal:

"The Iran Deal is a bad deal. Through his action today, President Trump sent a strong signal to Iran and other foreign adversaries that nuclear proliferation has consequences.

"This bad deal, which was never ratified as a treaty during the Obama Administration because of opposition in Congress, allows Iran to develop ballistic missiles and shield its secret military sites from inspections. It should come as no surprise that Iran responded to it with more aggression and deception.

"Our foremost priority must be our country's national security. The President's decision is based entirely on this administration's clear-eyed view of the threat Iran poses. I support smart diplomacy to keep America safe, but we must oppose bad deals that give our enemies a pathway to a nuclear bomb, which is why I applaud the President's actions. The United States will lead our allies to ensure that rogue regimes like Iran never acquire the world's deadliest weapons."
