Statement

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) appeared on Fox Business this morning to discuss how Congress is working with the Trump Administration to further economic growth and keep America safe.

On Republicans' legislative priorities:

"Look at what we're doing this week; we're voting on VA reforms--the VA MISSION bill funds the Veterans Choice program. We need to make sure that moves forward. We've got our appropriations process and inside that process it actually secures the border. We've got tax reform coming up again, we want to make these cuts permanent…. So there's a lot to do still…. We've been moving more than 60 bills to combat the opioid crisis that affects every part of this nation. Those are bills that are moving through Energy and Commerce right now."

On how tax reform is sparking an economic boom:

"If you watch Nancy Pelosi she has been fighting everything that we do because she wants nothing to happen. Remember what she did when we were doing the tax bill--she made every single Democrat vote no. And she said it was "Armageddon,' and tax cuts would be "crumbs.' Now we're even finding in 48 of the 50 states, electrical bills are lower, millions of people got bonuses, and unemployment claims are at a 44-year low. That's more than four decades since we have seen something like this."

On President Trump's diplomatic breakthroughs with North Korea:

"Look at what we're hearing today from North Korea; they are dismantling their nuclear test site. That's what the early satellite pictures are showing. This is a new day…we're more secure, and we're economically strong. We have a lot of great things happening, but at each step that we take the Democrats only approach is stop it because a Republican offered it."

On the need to secure our border:

"In our last spending bill we included border wall funding--more than a billion dollars. Which was exactly what the White House had requested, and they are beginning to build part of the wall…. We've got to finish that job for sure, but with this catch and release program…an individual if they're coming from outside of Mexico can get caught crossing the border and they get to stay inside our country. That's not the rule of law…. I'll be meeting with the President today when it comes to border security…this is of great importance because we need to make sure the border is secure."
