Issue Position

As the product of New York City public schools, the mother of two young boys who attend New York City public schools, and the wife of a college professor, Grace knows firsthand the impact that a quality education can have on a person's life. That is why she is committed to ensuring a quality education for all.

Grace supports universal pre-k, smaller class sizes, increased K-12 funding, increased pay for teachers, and the idea that attending college must be made more affordable. In Congress, Grace is the Congressional leader for enhancing programs that lead to the completion of a community college degree, and for ensuring that the FAFSA is translated and made available in multiple languages. She is also the proud co-sponsor of legislation that would make college tuition-free for working families, legislation that would allow summer meals to be served to students who live in impoverished communities, legislation to preserve and expand Pell Grants, and legislation that would create a new school infrastructure bond program.

In the 114th Congress, Grace proudly voted in favor of legislation overturning the outdated and misguided No Child Left Behind Act, legislation reauthorizing the Federal Perkins Loan Program, and legislation to simplify the process of applying for federal student aid by allowing borrowers to import data from their tax returns into financial aid application forms. In the 115th Congress, Grace will be active in the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act -- the primary federal law pertaining to colleges, universities, and student aid. She will also continue to fight for a quality, affordable education that will benefit all New Yorkers.
