Congressman Dan Kildee on President Trump's $12 Billion Aid to Farmers Impacted by Escalating Trade War
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement following President Donald Trump's announcement that he would spend $12 billion to try to ease his trade war's burden on farmers:
"Sending one-time aid to America's farmers is a short-term Band-Aid, not a long-term trade policy. The U.S. must be strong in fighting back against trade cheaters like China, but the enforcement actions we take must be targeted and strategic as to not undermine American jobs. Instead, the President created a trade war that has particularly hurt America's farmers. Michigan farmers have told me they don't want a one-time handout, they want fair trade policies and access to new markets to sell their crops. The country needs a well-thought-out and long-term strategy, not a misguided trade war that harms Michigan farmers."
