House Passes Bipartisan Tariff Reduction Bill

Date: Sept. 4, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4318, the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill Act. The bill would temporarily waive duties for raw materials not made in the United States in order to reduce costs for U.S. manufacturers.

LaMalfa said: "Since the Manufacturing Enhancement Act expired in 2012, American manufacturers have had to pay billions of dollars in unnecessary tariffs just to buy the supplies they need to make their products in here at home. We have the finest manufacturing in the world, but we shouldn't be putting them at a competitive disadvantage with the rest of the world. This only serves to hold American manufacturing back. With the unanimous passage of this bipartisan legislation, we're leveling the playing field for American producers, and I'm glad we were able to get this done."
