Yesterday, Congressman Marino joined Congresswoman Karen Bass in the introduction of the bipartisan H.R. 7012, Supporting Kinship Connections Act. Specifically, H.R. 7012 would amend the Social Security Act to provide grants to develop and enhance or evaluate kinship navigator programs.
Kinship navigator programs assist grandparents and other relatives who take primary responsibility for the care of children who are in need of a safe and stable placement. As more parents struggle with opioid addiction and other substance use disorders, it is important for title IV-E agencies to develop resources to support kinship caregivers. This helps caregivers in finding and utilizing programs and services to meet their own needs and the needs of the children they are raising.
Congressman Marino issued the following statement:
"Every child deserves to grow up in a healthy, safe, and loving home. We know that when children grow up in stable households, they are much more likely to succeed as adults. This legislation will help ensure that every foster child has the opportunity to pursue their dreams, start great careers, and raise loving families of their own."
